FYE faculty are the best teachers and scholars at CMU, and they represent every discipline, office, department and center.
Who is the ideal FYE instructor?
An individual committed to student-centered learning and who cares about the transitional needs of students is ideally suited to teach in the FYE Program.
What is required to become a FYE instructor?
Regular faculty, temporary faculty, emeriti, master's level instructors and professional staff may apply to teach a section of FYE. All applicants must have written permission from their supervisor and complete a sequence of workshops focused on first-year teaching and learning prior to teaching FYE.
How do I apply to become an instructor?
Submit the following to the FYE Office in 100 Larzelere Hall or electronically, in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format (RTF), to FYE at fye@cmich.edu:
- A complete vita or resume
- A one-page letter explaining how your experience, teaching, and/or scholarship support the learning objectives for FYE
- Contact information for three references that can confirm your fit with the FYE goals – one reference should be from a current or recent student
