Outstanding First-Year Advocate Award
2008-09 Award Recipient Announced!
The Outstanding First-Year Advocate Award recognizes a member of the CMU faculty or staff who has made significant contributions to life, learning and student connections during the first college year. This award is open to faculty and staff in all colleges, departments and offices at CMU. Any member of the CMU community may submit a nomination.
2009-2010 Nomination Process
For Nominators

Complete and submit the online nomination form between October and December 2009.

Submit a one to three-page letter of support that may include up to two additional letters of support from colleagues or students.
The nomination must describe the nominee's advocacy efforts on behalf of first-year students.
For Candidates/Nominees

Candidates notified about, and accepting, their nomination shall submit a brief one to two-page philosophy statement for review by the selection committee.

Award Timeline

Award
The recipient receives up to $3,000 to aid research or professional development expenses, a plaque recognizing this important achievement, and will have his or her name engraved on a plaque permanently displayed in the First-Year Experience Office.
Who can be nominated?
Anyone - faculty, staff, administrators, graduate teaching assistants - who serves as an advocate for first-year students at CMU.
Who can nominate a CMU faculty or staff member for this award?
Anyone! Students, faculty, staff, and interested members of the CMU community may all submit nominations.
