About FYE 101
What is FYE 101?
- A one-credit success course taught during the first college year
- Co-taught by a CMU faculty member and undergraduate peer mentor
- Small classes, with no more than 25 students, so you really get to know your classmates, professor and mentor!
- Teaches skills you will use throughout your entire college career
- Active – classes are activity and discussion-based
- Focused on engaging your mind in new ways and increasing your awareness of campus events
- Supports your involvement in social and professional organizations to help create your future
Fun Facts
- In FYE, you will be given opportunities to try to do something you would normally never attempt.
- The class is based on active and experiential learning strategies which means you will explore ideas and knowledge through real-life events.
- A faculty member and peer mentor work together to teach the class. You will be afforded the experience of our faculty who are known for being some of the best teachers and scholars at CMU as well as your peer mentor who has first-hand knowledge of campus and the resources to support your interests.
How do I enroll in FYE 101?
- During orientation, sign up for a section of FYE 101.
- Use the online registration system, CMU Portal (https://portal.cmich.edu/) to add FYE to your schedule.
- Note: FYE 101 is for new first-year, first-time students who have no more than nine credit hours from CMU. If you have nine or more credit hours because of dual enrollment, online coursework, or transfer credit, you can must contact the FYE Program at fye@cmich.edu to enroll.
